Household Hazardous Waste

 

The City of Olathe operates a year-round program for all Johnson County residents to safely dispose of leftover, unwanted household hazardous materials, also known as Household Hazardous Waste (HHW), at no charge.  No commercial waste is accepted.

2nd Saturday HHW Drop-Off Events: (no appointment needed)
2nd Saturday of each month, 8:00 am to 2:00 pm
E-Waste not accepted at 2nd Saturday events.

 

HHW FacilityThe HHW Drop-Off event is a simple, drive-thru system. Upon entering, you'll be asked to provide a photo ID and a general description of your HHW items. Next, you'll be directed to the unloading area, where City employees will unload the HHW from your trunk or vehicle.  Be sure all HHW items are secured in your vehicle so they won't tip over or leak.  Label any products not in their original containers.

 

Residents must make an appointment to recycle E-waste.

 

Product ReUse Program
Olathe's Product Reuse Program allows Johnson County residents to take materials home for FREE!

E-waste Recycling Program
Johnson County residents wanting to recycle their old household computers, televisions, and other small electronics are able to do so through the City's E-waste Recycling Program. E-waste is not accepted at the 2nd Saturday HHW open collection event.  Residents must make an appointment to recycle E-waste.

  • Floor cleaners/polish
  • Fluorescent light bulbs
  • Fuels (diesel, gasoline, kerosene)
  • Latex paint
  • Mercury (thermometers, thermostats)
  • Motor oil
  • Oil-based paints
  • Paint thinners
  • Pesticides
  • Solvents
  • Stains/varnishes
  • Wood preservatives
