The Olathe Miracle League is seeking volunteers to serve as athlete “buddies” who support young athletes, ages 6-17, with physical or mental challenges. Buddies help provide kids of all abilities the opportunity to play baseball in a safe and fun environment. The fall season begins Saturday, Sept. 17. Buddies can volunteer for one game or for the entire season. Learn more or register to become a buddy. »

Join Olathe Parks & Recreation on Friday, Sept. 16, at 7 p.m. at Stagecoach Park for Movies in the Park, featuring Zootopia. The free movie will start at dark (around 7:45 p.m.). Vendors will be on site to sell concessions throughout the night. Bring chairs or a blanket for an evening the whole family can enjoy. Movies in the Park will be canceled for inclement weather. The City of Olathe will reduce outdoor pool operations beginning in August as follows: Mill Creek and Oregon Trail Pools will close for the season on Sunday, Aug. 7, at 7 p.m. Frontier Trail Pool will close on Friday, Aug. 12, at 8 p.m. Black Bob Bay will remain open through Labor Day with new hours starting Monday, Aug. 15: Monday, Aug. 15, through Friday, Aug 19, open from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Weekends only beginning Saturday, Aug. 20, through Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 5, open from 12:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. »

Story updated on July 26 Eastbrooke Trail will be closed to the public on Friday, July 29, for maintenance. The trail runs from Eastbrooke Park (13000 S. Greenwood St.) to the Indian Creek Trail connection just north of 127th St. »

Olathe Parks & Recreation presents Summer Teen Bash on Thursday, July 28, from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Black Bob Park and Black Bob Bay. Check-in begins at 6:45 p.m. The event is open to students entering grades 6-9. The event is free with the donation of any school supply item. School supplies collected at the event will benefit the Olathe Public Schools Foundation. The evening will include games, activities in the park, swimming, prize drawings, and more! Visitors to Water Works Park, Parkview Manor, and the community gardens may notice a few more monarch butterflies during their visit this summer. A total of 55 new butterfly-friendly plants have been planted around the community thanks to a donation from Bridging the Gap in Kansas City. »
