Park & Trail Projects

The next neighborhood park to be designed and constructed in Olathe will be the 5.2 acres of open green space located west of the round-a-bout at Greenwood and 116th Street.

A public meeting was held on January 24, 2013 at Heatherstone Elementary School.  There were approximately 40 residents in attendance.  A layout of the park was shown which included a shelter, playground, open green space and walking trail.  Possible additions to the park could include exercise equipment.

Currently a design for the park is being developed and construction is beginning.  The city's in house construction crew will build the park.  The city has accepted excess soil from the development to the west of the site, so currently there are mounds of soil placed along the north and south sides of the property.  These bermed areas will be further developed once the final plans for the park have been completed.  Construction of the walkway, shelter and playground area is scheduled to be completed in 2014.

LONE ELM PARK - SOCCER/SOFTBALL PARKING LOT EXPANSION

Seal-O-Matic Paving Company, Inc was awarded the contract for the parking lot expansion at Lone Elm Park on April 15, 2014.  Construction of this project will begin on May 5, 2014.  The work will include the expansion of the parking lot, for the soccer complex, to the east.  There will be an additional 90 parking stalls along with a second entrance into the complex.  Once work on this parking lot is completed the current entrance drive will become a one way exit with the new eastern most driveway becoming a one way entrance into the park.

The softball complex parking lot will have an additional 82 parking stalls to the north and 65 stalls to the south.  There is also additional storm sewer work to be completed with the parking lot expansion for the softball complex.

All parking lot work should be completed by August 2014.

Both complexes will be open for use but we ask for your patient during this construction period.
