Park Sales Tax

Oregon Trail ParkPark Sales Tax:  Retail purchases in Olathe contain a 1/8th cent sales tax which is dedicated to parks and recreational facilities.  The benefits are essential for the health and well being of our citizens.

 History:  In 1999, voters approved a 1/8th cent sales tax initiative.  This initiative produced roughly $15 million over 5 years.  The success of the program was very well received and voters approved the extension of the tax foran additional 10 years in 2004.  Estimated projections calculate the tax revenue will bring in approximaetly $25 million by the end of 2015.

Projects Have Benefited:

  • Renovation and remodel of all outdoor pools in Olathe, which include Blackbob Bay, Mill Creek, Frontier Pool, and Oregon Trail parks.
  • Purchase and development of Lone Elm Park
  • Fairveiw shelter upgrade
  • Renovation and remodel of Oregon Trail Park using environmentally friendly construction practices
  • Development of four new trails and connections at Eastbrooke, Rolling Ridge, Mahaffie and Heritage
  • Development of Stagecoach Park
