The Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm Historic Site, 1200 Kansas City Rd., in Olathe will feature Kansas Farm Chores for the theme for this week’s Family Fun Night. Free admission and for a small fee visitors can ride the stagecoach around the site and make an 'S' hook in the blacksmith shop. Visitors are encouraged to bring a picnic dinner to eat under the white tent.
A featured activity will be horse powered corn grinding with Burt the horse. For $1/person, you can ride Burt as he walks around the circle. Horse powered corn grinding will take place from 6pm to 7pm. At 7pm, Burt will then change duties to the horse powered treadmill and threshing machine. We will begin threshing the fresh wheat harvest from last Thursday. Also at 5:30pm, 6:30pm, 7:30pm see a milking demonstration. Other hands on activities being offered at Mahaffie may include sawing wood, laundry, and churning butter. As always, play 19th century games and see what is cooking on Mrs. Mahaffie's cookstove. Hopefully the weather forecast stays true and the temperature will only be 95 degrees instead of 105 as it has been! We hope to see you there as we appreciate everyone's visit!
