Pardon Our Progress

Our parks construction crews are busy making improvements to various parks in our system. This page will keep you up-to-date on current construction projects throughout the Olathe Parks and Recreation system. We apologize for any inconvenience and look forward to new and exciting features.

Park development at 116th and Greenwood

Construction on the park at 116th and Greenwood in the Santa Marta area continues to make progress.  The city's construction crew continues to develop the park with a concrete walking trail, picnic shelter, playground and open play lawn.  Seeding, sodding and the playground installation will occur in the fall of 2014.

Lone Elm Park - Soccer/Softball Parking Lot Expansion

Seal-O-Matic Paving Company, Inc. has been awarded the contract to expand the parking lots at both the soccer and softball complexes at Lone Elm Park.  Work will begin on Monday, May 5, 2014.    The construction will include the following:  the addition of 90 parking stalls to the soccer complex along with a second entrance and roadway on the east side of the property.  The softball complex will have the addition of 82 stalls to the north and 65 stalls to the south of the existing lot.  Construction is expected to last through August 2014.  The complex will still be open, but patrons are asked to use caution during this construction period.

Tennis court lights will be replaced at Two Trails Park and Mill Creek Park.  Capital Electric was awarded the contract to install new Musco Lights at both tennis court facilities.  These lights will be more efficient and cost effective to the parks and recreation system.  The construction is expected to begin at Two Trails Park the week of August 18, 2014.  The courts will be closed during this construction.  Once completed at Two Trails the contractor will move to Mill Creek and complete that installation.  It is anticipated that the work will take 7-10 working days to complete at each site.  All work should be completed by the middle of Sept.

The existing playground at Prairie Center Park will be removed and replaced with a new playground in the fall of 2014.  There will also be a new playground installed on the northern section of the site just south of the baseball field complex and west of the parking lot.  Both playgrounds are expected to be completed in 2014.

A generous donation by an Olathe family, asked that their donation be used to expand the playgound at Brougham Park.  This playground addition will occur in the fall of 2014.

The City currently has, out for bids, a project to remove and reconstruct the trail at Two Trails Park.  Bids are due on August 21, 2014 at 10:00AM on Public Purchase.  Once reviewed it is anticipated that the project would be awarded in early September and construction of the trails would occur during the month of Sept through October.
